Christina Smith

Professional profile

Christina is an experienced and versatile editor and English language teacher who cares deeply about education, language and communication.

Before moving into editing, Christina spent 10 years teaching English as a second language, mostly at the University of Waikato and Massey University, Wellington. This teaching background and her tertiary studies have given her a strong interest in language and literacy as well as in effective teaching for diverse learners.

Since 2007, she has consulted on, edited, and reviewed educational resources, working with teams to develop content for a broad range of audiences and purposes within primary, secondary, tertiary and health education contexts. This includes the development, writing and editing of print, digital and web-based resources as a channel editor, Technology Online editor, general editor and an English language learning specialist editor.

From 2007–2013, her work with Learning Media saw her writing and editing for publications such as: Our Smokefree School/He Kura Auahi Kore: A Practical Guide to Being a Smokefree Community; Gifted and Talented Students: Meeting Their Needs in New Zealand Schools; the Tupu and Fōlauga student titles and teacher support materials; the Pasifika Learning Languages series storybooks and teacher support materials; and the Tertiary Education Commission’s Collections series. She also wrote and reviewed content in relation to the needs of English language learners, including for the teacher support materials for publications such as the Ready to Read, Junior Journal, School Journal Story Library, and School Journal.

Christina has worked with many different formats and media, including comprehensive publications for teachers, student titles, pamphlets, posters, websites and showcase applications.
