Professional experience

For the past two years Jess has worked for Core Education in the Learning with Digital Technologies team where she has continued to develop her skills around collaboration, teaching as Inquiry, coding and robotics. She is skilled at introducing Google Suites to teachers and showing how best to use that to develop staff and children.

After completing her teaching diploma at The New Zealand Graduate School of Education, Jess taught in London for just over two years. She returned to Christchurch and has held numerous positions in schools where she developed a passion for exploring ways to implement and teach digital fluency. Jess has a passion for e-learning and finding ways to engage students, and she is continually finding new and innovative ways to promote best pedagogy.

Change leadership 

Successfully supported learning communities and LCC clusters to:

  • review Teaching as Inquiry to reflect on and ensure teaching is responsive
  • evaluate pedagogy and practices to ensure they reflect future-focused education and responsive practices
  • support leadership of change within the school community.

 Digital fluency

Successfully supported learning communities and LCC clusters to:

  • the eLearning Planning frameworks (English Medium) to self-review e-learning practices and capabilities to identify and target areas for improvement
  • increase student engagement and achievement through the use of digital technologies
  • promote the use of coding and robotics in the classroom to engage children
  • enhance collaboration opportunities in the classroom through use of Google Suites.

Literacy and numeracy

Successfully supported learning communities and LCC clusters to:

  • use a range of digital technologies to enhance the writing and numeracy programme
  • increase student engagement and agency through use of digital technologies
  • promote and support ongoing collaboration between staff to make the planning process effective and easy.

Personal statement

I am passionate about e-learning and finding ways to engage students, and I am continually finding new and innovative ways to promote best pedagogy. I have a passion for innovative practice, change management and digital fluency. Over the past few years I have been developing my skills in finding ways to implement Robotics and Coding in the classroom to promote digital fluency and engagement. I am excited about the continually changing and evolving possibilities this area has to offer. I am skilled at encouraging collaborative planning and creating engaging lessons through use of Google Apps for Education and looking at ways teachers can create ongoing systems to help make teaching easier.
