Professional experience 

Pamela has worked for CORE Education in the contracts team providing leadership to national and regional projects since 2015. Pamela has leadership  responsibility in the Grow Waitaha programme supporting schools in Canterbury region.

She also has experience in managing key relationships across multiple projects and alliances. She is an experienced mentor and coach, and in this capacity provides guidance and support to project leads and managers. Her role includes support and quality assurance for all programme deliverables, relationships, reporting and budgets. 

Pamela’s other education roles have included: South Island Project Lead for Professional Learning and Development,  Ministry of Education (MOE), senior advisor (MOE), school leadership positions (acting principal, relieving principal, deputy principal, associate principal, SENCO), New Zealand Curriculum (NZC) facilitator (Auckland University).

Pamela has an in-depth knowledge of quality teaching and the research that underpins

effective practice. Through her work with principals and MOE staff, Pamela has explored pedagogical leadership practices and change frameworks. In leading discussions around learning community clusters and the impact of professional learning communities she focuses on the collective responsibility of all partners in achievement challenges. Pamela uses evidence-based approaches to support teacher and leadership inquiries into practice, with a focus on quality outcomes for learners.

As an in-school facilitator and in her leadership positions, Pamela has been involved in staff capability and student achievement analysis. This involved establishing professional learning groups and using research on quality teaching practices to inform discussions and develop group and individual inquiries.


Pamela  has expertise in the following areas:

Curriculum design and review

  • leading school wide implementation and review of the curriculum, reporting  and assessment
  • leading and facilitating  school-wide initiatives in literacy, social sciences, gifted and talented, inclusion, enterprise education, accelerated programmes, and health and wellbeing.

Evaluative capability 

  • analysing data to identify trends and targeted the areas of engagement and achievement; including brokering the best support to achieve goals that have been collaboratively developed.
  • collation and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data and reporting this to a range of audiences.

Mentoring and coaching

  • working with tertiary students, beginning teachers, experienced teachers,  school and project leaders to develop personalised professional development programmes
  • guidance programmes and appraisal

 Strategic planning and governance

  • supported school boards and leadership teams and provided advice and guidance to support  governance and management.
  • reviewed school charters and strategic plans and provided feedback around compliance and achievement targets.

 Education brief and report writing

Pamela has developed rubrics, schoolwide exemplars, education reports, strategic and annual plans, school charters, technical reports, evaluative reports and school education briefs. This has involved using indicators, evaluative frameworks, qualitative and quantitative data, and data analysis. 

Project development and leadership

Pamela has provided leadership in  all stages of a project and worked with multiple partners to achieve the outcomes and vision. She has managed and monitored all resourcing within a project including human resources, finances and risks.

Personal statement

I have an  extensive knowledge of and experience with the education sector as both a practitioner leader as well as an MOE official. This experience provides a unique view of the teaching profession and education.

I have a strong belief in educational success for all and identify professional learning and development as the key lever to shift thinking, beliefs and attitudes. I am passionate about inclusive education and advocate for the development of social competencies. I believe that individuals make a difference to the lives of others and every interaction we have influences and changes the situation and outcome. 

I grew up in Christchurch and returned back to the home of the Crusaders six years ago. I have also lived in Marlborough, Manawatu and Auckland.  I am part of a network of parents with special needs children and enjoy the social interaction that we engage in. When relaxing you will find me fishing and boating in the Southern Lakes.
