Professional experience

Renee joined the CORE Education team in 2016. She has experience as a facilitator, providing tailored support to schools through the Learning with Digital Technologies professional learning programme. Renee also works as an advisor for Te Ara Whīti - The Connected Learning Advisory.

Renee has worked in both English-medium and Māori-medium settings as an advisor, facilitator and teacher. She is also involved in research, resource writing and programme development.

Renee draws on a broad skill set to provide tailored professional learning. Using an inquiry approach, Renee successfully supports schools and communities of learners to raise student achievement. Drawing on recent teaching experience, she has a genuine understanding of the needs of schools and school leaders.

Renee is passionate about Māori achieving success as Māori. Her enthusiasm and expertise in this area have led to her engagement in a number of research projects and initiatives.

Renee is actively involved in community enterprises, providing her with a depth of understanding about education in her region. She draws on local connections and expertise to provide the relevant support.

Before CORE Education, Renee worked at Lytton High School as a teacher of Mathematics and Science in both English-medium and bilingual settings. During this time, Renee had the opportunity to support the development of cross-curricular learning programmes, local curriculum resources and effective co-teaching practices.

A community empowered to learn, unlearn and relearn will achieve lofty goals. I believe that we must work together to forge new pathways, while acknowledging the wisdom of those who have come before us. I am enthusiastic about the development of our communities through education. Understanding the importance of cultural locatedness, identity and language I am passionate about working to build relationships between leaders and learners. My commitment to nurturing an effective bicultural partnership supports shifts in thinking and practice. I believe that the development of a learning culture in partnership with our communities will lead to improved outcomes for all.
