On a pub wall in Yorkshire…
October 18th, 2004 by gina.revillThis isn’t a very good photo-there was a bright light below the sign and I couldn’t find the right setting on my camera-but I love this phrase! English pubs are one of the best reasons for being alive, especially in winter, and when you find one that serves good ale-heaven!
I don’t profess to know much about English ale, but I arrived in this country only ever having tasted lager, and associated beer with 40 degree summer heat. I didn’t get the concept of drinking beer on a cold day. Now I have tasted enough ale to appreciate the gorgeous flavours brought out at cellar temperature. When in Yorkshire a few days ago, my friend introduced me to Taylor’s Landlord-another good reason for being alive!!

When you have lost your inns, drown your empty selves, for you will have lost the heart of England!
Well Shaun, all I can say is come over here and say that…..

Do you think Andy? London is so big and I don’t know-where are the best inns in the country then?

For a better chance of finding genuine community pubs I reckon Westcountry, Wales, Yorkshire - probably other rural areas as well. I gave up searching in the SE ages ago.
