Whelks are good. They taste best on a windy and wet day at the end of the summer season in any resort from Hornsea up to and incluing Whitby. Salt and vinegar with a touch of grit are required for best eating conditions.

Mm, i like them too. I also discovered sliced or chopped whelks can be included in a sort of english version of Paella.
