Evgeny Kissin

Greta and Sasha took me to see Evgeny Kissin play three Beethoven piano sonatas at the Barbican tonight. I’m still in a higher plane-can’t sleep yet.
We were right up the front able to see his facial expression and hands. He looked pale and other-worldly. He sounded other-worldly. By the end of the first half I’d solved all my life’s problems and informed the man sitting next to me.
The funny thing was, one of the violinists looked just like a plumber. It wasn’t just me-Greta agreed…

Why did he look like a plumber, Gina? Was he holding a U-bend instead of a violin? Heaven help the poor bloke sitting next to you
Have a wonderful Friday x

Gina, it was a real pleasure for me listening to Evgeny Kissin. Reading the interview with him on the programme notes made me think how humble he is!
About the violinist - I think Kissin looks more like a teenager. He is as you put it “other-worldy” and anybody near him would look “down to earth”. By the way - the strings had a strong presents and Colin Davis was very friendly to everybody.
