Sparkling Northern Christmas

To all my NZ readers, this is why I love Christmas so much in the Northern Hemisphere-it is cold and eating plum pudding just makes more sense. And the winter is broken up by the excitement of all the decorations and buzz of Christmas. And you don’t have to spray fake snow and frost around the windows-it’s already there! And you don’t have to wait until 11pm to see the Christmas lights-it’s dark by 3.30! Actually I’m not being sarcastic even though this entry is sounding more and more like it…..

On another note, sorry you couldn’t get to my blog-thanks for your emails telling me. A workman cut through a cable and shut us down for a few days….

  1. I miss London – it was a pain to work in and commute to but …

  2. That’s a beautiful site…. I envy you being so close to London sometimes…. but hey, it’s ’swings and roundabouts’

No doubt you envy people living in or near the country?

  3. yes-I get heartsick for the sea especially. And complete quiet. Though I can’t complain-if I didn’t want to be here I wouldn’t be!

  4. London’s a funny one isn’t it Eve? You love it but can at times get sick of the crush and rush if it’s day after day though others might disagree….

  5. I can’t believe that southern hemisphere dwellers are still celebrating their midwinter festival at the wrong time of year. It’s been a few centuries now, why not shift it to the appropriate season?

  6. Good point Andy… what I can’t understand is how Santa’s reindeers can pull a sleigh without any snow….. curious one that.

  7. Oh Jonathan – they fly of course! Anyway, once the school term is over I’m going into Boycott Christmas mode :-) It was never much of a Scots festival anyway.

  9. There is an interesting Christmas tradition in South Europe about a coalmaker who lives in the Pyrenees and speaks an unknown language… dirty, likes eating alot and gets drunk often… a character!

  10. Don’t knock the south – we’ll have champagne and strawberries on the deck for breakfast, fresh salmon and salads under the trees for lunch, off to the beach for the afternoon – then we’ll eat late after a long balmy evening.
(We had the plum pud & turkey in June for the winter solstice)

  11. Hi Gina, that photo of Harrods reminds me of when we went Christmas shopping there. We did have a wonderful time and I wish we could be with you this Christmas. I’ll talk to you on Christmas Day hopefully.
