The culture cab!
February 14th, 2005 by gina.revillI ran downstairs with the boys today to see the arrival of the purple Culture Cab! Gorgeous! It’s a taxi all set to travel round the country filming people talking about objects which hold special significance to them.
It’s part of the Every Object Tells a Story project conceived by Stephen Heppell. The story of how he thought of it gets me every time….He was in the V & A with his wife Carole, and one of the museum’s curators. They stopped to look at a sequined dress once belonging to Marilyn Munroe. The curator remarked how lovely it was. Carole pointed out that her grandmother might disagree, as she was a seamstress, sewing on sequins that cut her hands so much, she had to change her white cotton gloves several times a day as they became soaked in her blood. Man….
The idea of this project is to bring these kind of stories together with their objects.
And the Cab is COOL! It even has ‘ON AIR’ above the windscreen instead of ‘for hire’ ![]()
