Following is all the information you need to apply for the Dr. Vince Ham eFelowship for 2018.

 

Selection criteria 2018

Below are the criteria for selection that will be worked through by a panel of judges.

Applicants are welcome from all sectors and applicants are invited to complete their application in either English or te reo Māori.

The applications are scored on how well you:

  • clearly articulate the background and purpose of the intended action research
  • have demonstrated professional curiosity and a willingness to innovate and expand your thinking
  • identify the potential for the proposed inquiry to produce significant change in effective and equitable teaching and learning
  • explain how the intended action research links to at least one of the future-focused themes outlined in Bolstad et al. 2012
  • have demonstrated your ability to participate in a culturally responsive way with colleagues
  • show evidence of your experience, potential in innovative teaching, and/or pedagogical leadership.

Where other criteria are equal, preference will be given to candidates whose projects are most likely to benefit learners from communities with fewer resources.

Selection panel

The panel is made up of a minimum of five people, including:

  • a minimum of two CORE Education representatives
  • a current Dr Vince Ham eFellow not employed by CORE Education
  • a prominent member of the education community
  • at least one member of the panel will be able to contribute a bicultural perspective on the selection process
  • at least one member of the panel will be a fluent reo Māori speaker.

CORE Education may co-opt other members onto the panel if necessary. The panel's decision is final.

Important things to know

If you’re to be successful in your application, here’s some key information you should know:

  • your action research project will focus on an element of your practice that you are curious about and keen to develop further
  • it will involve an aspect of teaching and/or learning that has the potential to bring about transformation within your context
  • you will need to provide a clear description of the background to, and purpose of, the intended project
  • that being a digital technology whizz is not a prerequisite, however you will be expected to embed some form of digital technology within your inquiry as part of the emphasis on future-focused teaching and learning
  • you will need the support of your employer
  • where collaborations and partnerships with others are required, you will have established their willingness to be involved
  • you will need to be able to work in a culturally responsive way that acknowledges CORE Education’s Treaty based way of working
  • you will have begun to try out some ideas and be looking for support and challenge to continue this work
  • you will be in a position where you have the time and motivation to undertake this project during 2018
  • you will be prepared to share your findings — the learning, approaches, practices — at ULearn 2018 and with the wider educational community through a written report.

Your action research will need to align with one or more of the future-focused themes (mentioned below) identified by Bolstad et al. (2012).

  • Personalising learning
  • New views of equity, diversity, and inclusivity
  • A curriculum that uses knowledge to develop learning capacity
  • Changing the script: rethinking learners’ and teachers’ roles
  • A culture of continuous learning for teachers and educational leaders
  • New kinds of partnerships and relationships: schools no longer siloed from the community
