Arthur Benjamin argues in just over 2 minutes that we need to aim for statistics as the ‘pinnacle’ of mathematics education not calculus.
As he says it IS important that people know about probability and chance, that they know the significance of two standard deviations from the mean. This knowledge would certainly help our profession as we interpret and dive into data on student achievement.  Far more so than being able to solve a linear regression!
