Andrew, thats one of the joys and also a challenge of the virtual 'discussions' .... I find it much easier to debate ideas in real time than track a thread over time. As you say though good to have the discussions and I find it a great way of clarifying what I think as well. maybe something we can follow up at L@S or ULearn some time ....lol
cheers

Hi Greg,

I am glad to see you are continuing the conversations, I found them interesting, challenging and provocative. These sorts of professional conversations are powerful and also uncommon. Powerful as you have to reflect on your own practice and uncommon becuase we seldom undertake them either face to face or virtually. Please continue to challenge posts - it makes the process worthwhile.

I love looking through all of Doug Johnson's material on his website. So when I came across this I had to leave my favorites for people, sorry I copied some of yours Greg:

"So much to do and so many other things to distract me."

"I’m not bossy. I just know what you should be doing."

"I will conquer my procrastination problem. You just wait!"

"PESSISMISM never works."

"For every action, there is an equal and opposite government program."

"Books – the original laptop."

"Doesn’t expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected?"

"Have you tried turning it off and back on again?"

That are some of my favorites. Does anyone have anymore websites with some quotes that might brighten up everyones day?

Of course I completely missed the fact that Feedjit now lists the town that you come from, instead of a generic New Zealand location as it did before, which makes a mockery of my comment above saying its weird that your blogsphere of Auckland list... never mind....

Great fantastic blog. It turns up in the blogosphere list of Auckland blogs or blogs relevant to your area, with that new feedjit tool - which is great but slightly perplexing... although I was told by someone attached to google that all traffic from blogs gets marked as being from Auckland if its on Broadband no matter where it originates from, so maybe that explains it. I'm at Tamaki Intermediate in Auckland and my blogs tamakitoday.blogspot.com - keep up the fantastic work!

I have yet to reach the level of principal, but am working toward it by taking the prerequisite classes here in Missouri. Not to gossip, but at the first school I taught at, during extra-curricular events, my principal could be seen hovering about the gymnasium or outdoor field as is if she were a bouncer preparing for trouble. I never had a problem with this, but now I realize how much of the events she was missing and how much time was spent worrying rather than enjoying the wonders of the kids around her. I think that part of being any type of worker within the school requires a person to ENJOY what they are doing inside and outside the classroom. I want to be able to tell Johnny what a nice pass he made last night, or Sally how much I enjoyed her stand on "Principals Who Work Too Hard" during her debate session.

I do believe that time management skills are necessary for a school to run well, but the thing I see most is that principals don't, as stated above, know how to delegate; and that can be the beginning of long days and nights for them.
