gotuit on-demand video

Gotuit Media has just launched Gotuit, a service that offers users on-demand free video content, but whereas YouTube and Google video are largely platforms for amateur video content, Gotuit is aimed at putting professional video content online.

Gotuit was founded in 2000 and up till now has been mainly focused on the cable TV industry - competing with TV networks, like HBO and Showtime, that offer on-demand video. Now Gotuit is entering the broadband tv market, plus it has big plans for mobile tv later this year. The site is Flash based and has a familiar interface for YouTube users. Unlike Youtube, Gotuit has struck licensing deals with labels and other content owners to build a library of “premium” content, organised in four channels; music, news, sport and entertainment. In the music section they start with over 2,000 music videos (compare to iTunes, which has ???3,000+???), fully licensed for streaming to users on the site for free. The also have deep content in sports, news and movies, including short films. The site has some advertising around the content though, as well as 15 second video ads between plays.

Positives; Gotuit has instantaneous video delivery - it is streamed directly to your PC; there’s no buffering or download. Secondly if you register on the site you can create shareable playlists of videos, in other words bookmark favorite content. You can only create one large playlist per category (music, news, etc.), though, and you can???t mix different types of content within a playlist. Also, they are adding deep tagging features that will allow you to go straight to specific parts of videos - a difficult thng to do in streaming video. For example you can do a search and it’ll deliver a set of video snippets that feature specific content.

Cant get to the Film Festival - gotuit’s enetertainment section has a selection of short films, worth checking out.
