me2u
Me2U, at Canada’s Athabasca University is a fully customizable learning landscape, a hybrid of weblogging, e-portfolios and social networking. The intention is that this combination of features will “help promote student engagement in learning through reflection in an academic and social setting”. Me2U is powered by Elgg, and is used as a research and development tool that also allows distance education students to meet both socially and academically.
Use of Me2U is restricted to Athabasca University students and staff, but you can get an indication of some uses by visiting the collaborative learning activities wiki, prepared by Donna Cameron and Terry Anderson for use by “self-paced (continuous enrolment) students working at a distance to add a social component to their learning.“. Difficult to judge the extent of usage without login access, but I’m interested in the range of features and wonder how the environment aids social networking and community-building for these distance learners.
