studicious notetaker

First launched six weeks ago, stu.dicio.us (social notetaking for students) has had new features added in its latest upgrade. Described by the creators as “part scheduler, todo manager, and ???web 2.0??? notetaker”, stu.dicio.us is also a social network. There is a “grade manager”, you can add users to your friends list from a user???s note or schedule page. You can now disconnect from the Internet while editing a note, and create auto-links that will open in Wikipedia, Google, or Google Scholar (more engines to come). ???Text Substitutions’ creates textual shortcuts (i.e. govt -> government), and the search function allows you to search for notes by school, teacher/lecturer, class, or the note itself.

Still a reasonably new service, studicious is “created for students, by students. Our goal is to break down as many barriers as possible towards what should be the objective of all educational institutions: the free flow of information. Sharing notes is not cheating. Everyone should have every advantage possible in increasing individual knowledge…”

I’d be interested to know how useful for students it actually is. By searching you can view some of the (university) students’ pages - see n_star’s notes for example - which can very easily be saved as a word document. Fascinating, and file manager to come soon.
