Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

Te Marautanga o Aotearoa will be the world’s first indigenous curriculum for the compulsory schools sector. it will be a partner document to the English-medium New Zealand Curriculum, not merely a translation”. states The New Zealand Education Gazette.

I am proud to announce the launch of this document in Aotearoa/New Zealand. A new pathway for our schools to better provide education for the individuals who are Maori within a Maori medium education setting. To learn more about this take a look at the NZ Ministry website or Te Kete Ipurangi - The NZ Education Portal.

RockYou PhotoFX - Get Your Own

Kia ora koutou katoa;
My fellow CORE Kaupapa Maori colleagues have given me the delightful name ‘Gertie’, seriously that is funny because it’s nearly as bad as my middle name ‘Edith’. Unfortunately, I couldn’t join the CKM Crew when they gave birth to the blog but was totally there in heart, mind and spirit.

I work within the ECE ICT PL programme and am the Regional Facilitator for 8 centres in Auckland and 1 in Whangarei. My role is to tautoko teachers with their action research which looks at ways in which ICT can enrich children’s learning.

I was born and raised in South Auckland, and love and live in Otara. I am of Nga Puhi and Cook Island descent. I have two beautiful children whom keep me superbly busy, along with work and studies!
I have been teaching in early childhood education for over 10 years and currently on my final paper towards my Masters Degree. Woop woop! Look forward to engaging in discussions with you all (3 of you) … lol …via the blog!

3 simple tools for teachers who want to v-blog

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

had a visit from reggae cunningham today. a teacher from te kura kaupapa maori o te rotoiti. she has just received her new macbook and has come to me for a bit of help. she is also on the nga taumatua course for the year so literacy is her main kaupapa for 2007.

today we looked at how she could use 2 online tools to showcase her work and to introduce ict’s into her little kete [bag of tricks].

macbook with built in isight
imovie to record her mihi
youtube to house her new video
blogger to set up her very own blog

nā wai rā she now has her own blog and a bit of knowledge about how to do it. the only criteria was that she has to share this new knowledge with her other classmates.

kia ora regz, nga mihi…
